Reading and Literacy Impairments

Vero Beach speech pathologist Dr. Julianne Freiwald has been helping patients who have reading or literacy impairments for 34 years.

Reading and literacy impairments are also under the scope of practice for speech-language pathologists. Dr. Freiwald has been trained in using the Lindamood Bell approach for facilitating the sensory cognitive processes for reading. Click here for more information on Lindamood Bell.

These include the sensory cognitive process of phonemic awareness, the sensory cognitive process of symbol imagery and the sensory cognitive process of concept imagery. This incorporates the foundation for sounding out words, recognizing them in correct letter form and comprehending what was read. This is a well-known, scientifically sound, research-based approach. Instead of being curriculum-based, it is founded on process-based instruction, making it unique.
